Can I give blood if I am taking minocycline for acne?

I really want to help out by giving blood, will I still be able to?

Thank you :)

  • Minocycline is not usually prescribed for women. You CANNOT give blood while you are on it or for 30 days after you stop taking it. Minocycline causes birth defects. All the side effects are very nasty: upset stomach, diarrhea, dizziness, unsteadiness, drowsiness, headache and vomiting, sensitivity to sunlight. It has also been linked to cases of lupus.Reduces the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. Blue-gray skin or teeth discoloration. Liver infection, Yeast Infections. Yellowing of the eyes or skin, stomach pain, sore throat, vision changes, and mental changes.
    Dizziness, ataxia, vertigo and tinnitus.

  • Listen to Donna!

  • NO do NOT listen to Donna! What a stupid thing to say, “Minocycline is not usually given to women” Minocycline CAN be given to women, just not in pregnancy because there isn’t enough safety data. Women generally aren’t pregnant all the time Donna!

You can donate blood whist taking most cycle antibiotics for acne. I know for a fact you can donate whilst taking Lemecycline and Oxytetracycline etc, you’d have to check regarding Minocycline. In most cases it will be ok.

  • I would guess not – you usually can’t when taking prescription medicines…
